On June 4, Eric Balas, a Zen Shiatsu Practitioner with over 16 years of experience in the art, will be presenting a lecture on Zen Shiatsu at the Local Grocer.
Zen Shiatsu is a form of Japanese bodywork that is based on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as older forms of Japanese Massage. It sees health in terms of Ki, or energy in the body. This energy flows through a network of pathways known as meridians. When these meridians are out of balance or malfunctioning both physical pain and mental discomforts arise. Zen Shiatsu treats the individual as a whole person, and addressing both mind and body is able to relieve pain, help ward off illness, and maintain a state of health and vitality.
Zen Shiatsu has been shown to be particularly beneficial for:
Insomnia
Anxiety and depression
Muscular Tension
Headaches
Digestive disturbances
Backache
Neck and shoulder pain
Joint pain
High Blood pressure
Poor circulation
