Targeted areas are the heart space, shoulders and deep twists incorporated into hip flexor postures and deep breathing. Specifically formulated to detoxify the body and mind. Studio is heated to 73-76 degrees. This is a flow like practice and is suitable for all levels. Modifications provided. Warning: Studio will be warm, please be mindful of this before coming to class. Twists will be frequent and deep, suited to squeeze out the toxins accumulated in the organs. Uniting breath (pranayama) with movement (asana), we will work toward gaining lung capacity, functional strength, range of motion in the joints, balance, flexibility, and relaxation. Each class begins with a grounding exercise. From the grounding exercise, we'll transition into a warm up, a gentle work phase, a standing balance phase, and finally into a cool down with restorative poses and deep breathing. The most challenging part of your practice will be getting here, but make the time for yourself and discover the physical, emotional, and spiritual benefits of a regular yoga practice. These 1 1/2 hr sessions are based on the vinyasa system of Ashtanga Yoga - and the mood of group. Autumn is closing in upon us, a time to come back in both physically and energetically after the frenzy of summer. With these changes comes the requirement to shift our habits and attitudes to nurture in the slowing and cooling pace of the northern hemisphere. We are moving out of the light and into the darkness, and as such we must strike a balance. This is a time to harvest the fruits of our labor, practice gratitude and make peace with all that was, all that did not come to fruition and all of the potential that still remains. It is also the time to purify and prepare for the hibernation and death of the winter months, we must consider and process all that we have turned up in the spring and summer, compost what has not worked and start considering what we want to impregnate in the winter. This retreat will give us the tools to define balance by our own standards and implement it into our daily lives. Supporting peace and silence enables us to address our lives with greater confidence and commitment- all the tools to sustain success. After so much motion and action we can get out of balance from our feeling/sensing side. We can come out of the summer feeling lost and wondering what the heck has happened over the last few months. I believe that Yoga is a practice best done every day as a tool to sustain your health and wellbeing goals for life, and naturally you can't make it to the studio every day so it is important to have the tools and tips to put together your own daily practice to nurture whatever it is you might need. I use my yoga practice to wake up, unwind after a long day, stretch deeply after traveling or to center myself in times of chaos. This practice is any combination of poses (asana), breathing (pranayama) and meditation- sometimes it's fast paced, sometimes it's slow- sometimes it is 10 minutes long and others it's over 60. That's the beauty of the home practice, you do what you can, when you can, however you choose. This program is ideal for individuals who know the value of the yogic practice and want to build upon their skills without investing into a 200 hour yoga teacher training. Each day will begin with yoga and meditation then move through an array of spiritual concepts to support the energetic shifts that are occurring in response to the cyclical changes of nature. The themes of balance, peace and silence will be woven throughout the weekend to nurture a release of the extroversion of summer and a return to the introversion of winter. With each new season comes a shift both in our outward surroundings as well as our inward nature. Autumn is closing in upon us, a time to come back in both physically and energetically after the frenzy of summer. With these changes comes the requirement to shift our habits and attitudes to nurture in the slowing and cooling pace of the northern hemisphere. We are moving out of the light and into the darkness, and as such we must strike a balance. This is a time to harvest the fruits of our labor, practice gratitude and make peace with all that was, all that did not come to fruition and all of the potential that still remains. After so much motion and action we can get out of balance from our feeling/sensing side. We can come out of the summer feeling lost and wondering what the heck has happened over the last few months.
